Cory and Jen had been out looking at rings in October 2003, and ordered a custom-designed ring from Karina Mattei in Brookline. Jen was, shall we say, *eager* for the ring to be delivered, and was pestering Cory for a few weeks about whether the "ring lady" had called.

Cory was traveling the entire week before our second anniversary, so Jen was convinced that he had not had time to go and pick up the ring.

He took off to "run errands" for about 4 hours on Saturday, the day before our anniversary, and Jen didn't think anything of it until the next morning. She called her friend Alicia to say that she thought that Cory might ask her that night

We went out for dinner to the Naked Fish, and then home to watch "Finding Nemo". At the end of the movie, Jen said, "It doesn't feel like two years, more like a couple weeks."

Cory placed the ring box in front of her and said, "Want to make it forever?" Jen's response was, "Yes!  I KNEW IT! I have to call Alicia!" Cory said she could make one phone call (like
jail?) and she called Alicia, who DIDN'T ANSWER. Cory left a message saying, "Hey Alicia. It's Cory. When you get a minute, call my fiancée, okay?" The phone rang about 30 seconds later.

The next day,  at about 10:30am, Cory got something of a surprise as well.  A Spastic Chicken (pictured at right) delivered a singing telegram to Cory at Accenture welcoming Cory to the family.  It seems Jen's mother felt that since Jen would be getting attention lavished on her showing off the ring, Cory should have the same.  It worked, and it was definitely the talk of the office.

So it was very successful surprise for everyone.  Jen was surprised, Cory was surprised, and above all, Jen said Yes! (though that was not much of a surprise).
